Please direct your attention to the infield grass as we recognize a special guest. Tonight the Syracuse Chapter of the New York State Baseball Umpires Association invite us to join them to honor the memory of a Syracuse area community leader by awarding the first annual Tony DeVivo Memorial Scholarship . This award is presented to a Syracuse area senior high school baseball player who exemplifies what Mr. DeVivo believed and taught the young athletes of his day - community service, leadership, and sportsmanship in addition to striving to be at their best at school and on the field. Along with umpiring, Tony DeVivo coached and was a founder of the local Moose Baseball Tournament still played annually today. This year's winner played ball at Phoenix High School, and he will attend SUNY Oswego to study accounting this fall. Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome Emilio Mammolito, the 2010 Tony DeVivo Memorial Scholarship winner. Standing with Emilio are members of his family and representatives from the Syracuse Umpires Chapter. On February 22 the Syracuse Chapter initiated a drive to Work One for Tony! The Tony DeVivo Memorial Fund was established in 1991 to support youth organizations throughout the Central New York area. The Syracuse Chapter of the New York State Baseball Umpires Association administers the fund, chaired by Mike Capriotti. Chapter members are urged to donate a game fee to the DeVivo Fund.
